March Nutrition Month
State Capitol

March 21, 2007        theme: Fruits & Veggies More Matters
Time: 10-2pm  (9-2pm for set-up)
Awards will be given and entertainment provided between 12pm & 1pm. Robin discussed the awards and recipients but is requesting anyone nominating a recipient to write up something about that person
Dave reported on the Teen Reach  “Youth Taking Charge Challenge” and their potential role in this event
Robin reported that ribbons in colors of the pyramid will be used to stress variety, focusing on red and green the colors for fruits and vegetables on the pyramid
Discussed meeting for lunch after the event, Jamie suggested inviting the legislators
Will discuss the Chicago event (March 19 kickoff for Fruits & Veggies – More Matters) when more information is available, Robin provided this website to obtain further information http://www.ffva.com/publications/harvester/JUN06_MORE.asp
Conference call on January 8th 2:30 pm for further planning

State Nutrition Action Plan (SNAP)

Cross collaboration meeting planned for July 27, 2007 in Chicago prior to SNE Annual Conference
SNE is requesting abstracts, Robin suggested that the committee submit an abstract on the March Nutrition Month event

  • Robin will check on reserving a meeting room at the Hyatt for INC mtg on 7/26/07

Food Policy Council

Food Policy Council is in transition, Access to Healthy Food Task Force is also in transition, next meeting was canceled.

 

Access and availability of fruits and vegetables

Discussing with CLOCC a project to improve access to fruits and vegetables, planning a meeting to discuss further.
Senior Farmers Market program now has Federal rules, state plan is due 2/15/07, working with Dept on Aging on changes for next year.

Legislative Status

Cheryl reported that her group is working on increasing communication between multiple nutrition groups. IL Dietetic Association is having a lobby day in Springfield on April 19th
Jamie reported on the IPHA conference, IPHA is requesting abstracts deadline is December 27th

Update on Activities from INC members

State Board of Education Action for Healthy Kids will begin taking self-nominations for office in January.
Amina reported that Emmett Lee is a new employee in their Chicago office.
Jamie discussed a proposed Nutrition and Physical Activity Summit no dates have been set, stay tuned for further information.
